Windows 8 Tip #1–Where are my Apps?

AllAppsAs Windows 8 continues to gain more traction, I thought that I would start a small collection of posts on the topic of Windows 8 Tips.  If you are starting to use Windows 8 or even a seasoned veteran, you may have the need to look for an application you have installed that you haven’t pinned to your cool new start screen.  There are a number of ways to bring up all of your installed apps via mouse, touch and keyboard.

Mouse

If you are someone who likes to never take your fingers off the mouse, you can do the following:

First we need to get to the Start Screen. Move your mouse to the upper right hand corner of your screen and you will see the charms menu slide in from the right.  From here, you can select the Windows Charm.  This will take you to the Start Screen.

Second, we need to get to the apps.  Once on the Start Screen, right click anywhere on the Start screen and the command bar will slide up from the bottom of the screen.

From here, select the All apps option and the list of all your installed applications will appear.  Sorted in alphabetical order by file name and then folder.

Touch

Okay, admit it.  You are a touchy person.  You like to touch the screen and gesture your way thru as many interfaces as you can.  Well, Windows 8 has a solution for you.

Let’s get back to the start screen.  This is easy.  Simply slide your finger from just off the right side of the screen to the left.  This will slide our faithful charms menu into sight.  From here, simply select the Windows charm to be instantly brought to the Start screen.

Bring up the apps.  Now that we are on the Start screen, simply slide your finger from just off the top of the screen down and the command bar will slide up from the bottom of the screen.

From here, select the All apps option and the list of all your installed applications will appear.  Sorted in alphabetical order by file name and then folder.

Keyboard – Quickest Way!

So, you like touch, but you don’t like the mouse and you definitely don’t want to smudge your screen.  Guess what?  Windows 8 has a solution for you too.  It’s called the PC’s good ole faithful herself, the Keyboard!

Option #1

You can always bring up the Start menu by simply pressing the Windows Key.  From there, you can start typing to see the results of your search.  However, this doesn’t get us our full list.  So, all you have to do from here is hit the Esc key and now you can see your entire list of apps magically show before your very eyes.

Option #2

Now, are you ready to be blown away?  Press the Windows Key + Q.  Bang!  Thank you very much.  Glad you enjoyed the show.  Please come back again!  Yep, that is all it took.  Your whole list, ready to scroll, search or select.

Hope this was useful.  If so, comment, or send to a friend.
